In honor of the Summer Olympic Games commencing in Rio, we held our own competition in the nearby NDSU rugby field… Appareo style. Our events were somewhat (not at all) similar to Olympic events, except with the added challenge of no preparation or training for our competitors. Don’t let the names “puzzle” or “egg toss” fool you — the activities were a grueling test of brains, brawn and teamwork.
The opening ceremony was almost as magical as the one in Rio, with the teams marching in during the Olympic anthem, and the running (walking) of the torch to light the cauldron. At the conclusion of the games, our 42 participants lined up within their 7 teams to be awarded their custom-made circuit board medals and team trophy.
Although we won’t see any true summer Olympians again until Tokyo 2020, the Appareo version will most likely be an annual event. See you at the Appareo Olympics – Fargo 2017!
